Legend of Genji Show
Genji, the Avatar who currently inhabits the world, is Korra’s direct successor. He was raised in the Ground Kingdom, where he also learned to bend objects using the earth, particularly sand. In The Legend of Genji, he is the primary character.
Genji’s family left their small sandbender village where they were born and raised four years ago and migrated to the thriving metropolis of Jinsha. To help his mother and younger sister, Genji worked odd jobs all around the city, trading in his homemade sand-sailor for a mop and bucket. Genji, who is now 17 years old, is a talented sandbender but also a troubled student who frequently skips school.
Early life
Genji was a member of the Hami tribe, a group of nomadic people from Khotan and Zahra who lived in the Si Wong desert. Genji’s father trained him when he at one point revealed himself to be a bender. Shai, his sister, was born years later.
Displacement
The Earth Federation, the new government that had replaced the Earth Kingdom, was confronted with severe economic issues in 204 AG. In order to increase employment and jump-start the economy, the Earth Federation decided to invade the Si Wong desert and take advantage of the oil fields and mines that were there. The Hami tribe was among the many sandbender tribes that attempted to resist but were ultimately expelled from their habitat.
Genji and his family were therefore made to dwell in Jinsha due to circumstances. After a year, Khotan left them and went back to the desert, leaving Genji in charge of the household. He left school to perform odd jobs here and there to assist his mother pay the bills, then started a steady position in the Old Lao’s repair shop.
